What this microphone test checks
The level meter reacts in real time to the sound your selected microphone picks up, so you can see — not just hope — that your mic is live and passing audio to the browser. Nothing you say is recorded; the signal only drives the moving bar.
Reading the level
Speak at a normal talking volume: the bar should rise clearly and fall back to near-zero in silence. A bar that barely moves means the input gain is too low or the wrong device is selected; a bar pinned to the top means the input is too hot and may distort. Adjust the microphone level in your system sound settings until normal speech sits comfortably in the middle.
